Great Introduction

In a very short, clear and concise method, this book covers all of the foundational topics for artificial intelligence. As a graduate student I used the book "Artificial Intelligence a Modern Approach". That textbook is a thorough introduction that thoroughly explains the theory and the implementation of artificial intelligence topics.

This book is, as it says, an introduction. For those who are completely unfamiliar with computer science topics, such as search algorithms like Dijkstra's Algorithm, Euler paths, depth first search, breadth first search, etc., this book might be too advanced. In other words, I feel the book assumes the reader is versed in computer science topics. Even without in depth computer science knowledge this book is an interesting read.

This book, as one can see from the table of contents, does a good job of introducing the reader to the foundational topics in artificial intelligence. I especially liked the fact that the book included a concise comparison of the previously mentioned search algorithms to iterative deepening, A* and heuristic search (informed vs. uninformed).

After reading "Artificial Intelligence a Modern Approach" I have found that this book, when considering the size and short concise writing style, is a handy reference to have around.

Generally Unclear

Everything seemed somewhat unclear, so I felt that I never knew precisely what the author was saying. The first chapter was the worst. He was trying to show the equivalence of two types of logic, but I couldn't tell the difference. I quickly decided to skip the rest of the chapter.
At least some of the book's flaws were due to missing translation. For example, a section on logic started with values t and f (presumably for "true" and "false") but on the next page switched to using w and f (probably for "wahr" and "falsch"). If I didn't know these German words, this switch would really have thrown me. Another section talked about getting the consecutive pairs of letters from a name. For Henry, the pairs were "ha", "an" and "ns". Obviously, the name originally was "Hans".
I've dealt with some books that were a struggle to read and I still got nothing out of them. This book is not like that. It was easy to read and I got something from it, just not as much as I'd hoped.

Interesting survey of the current state of Artificial Intelligence. Be aware that the author presumes a solid background in symbolic logic and set notation. If the reader does not have this background, the symbolic logic equations that make up much of the meat of the content will be unintelligible. It may not be accurate to title this book as an Introduction as it may cause readers to assume it is an introductory level read. It is not.

Eaten By The Tiger by Emile Allen, is a very unusual book. It tells a doctor's story of his catastrophic injury from both sides of the couch, as a doctor and a patient. Dr. Allen writes clearly and frankly, and does not hold back on his most intimate emotions. He describes the terrible accident, his virtual collapse, and the long road back to a better and more meaningful life in a manner that holds the reader's interest from beginning to end. The book is recommended to everybody who has met horrendous circumstances in life (isn't that just about everyone?) and would like help in finding his or her road to recovery and a better life. --Alma H. About the Author
Dr. Emile Allen is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He is the former Chairman of Urology and Vice Chairman of Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA. Although he no longer uses his surgeon's scalpel, Dr. Allen now heals through his inspirational speaking and writing, touching more lives than he ever could have as a surgeon.

The universe has given me a gift...it has come to me in the most unexpected and beautiful way, it has changed my life. Before I started reading Eaten By The Tiger, I knew that it would be inspirational and I would learn many invaluable lessons, what I didn't expect was that it would be such an immediate life altering experience. This has to be one of the most incredible books I have ever read. The pages of Eaten By The Tiger seem infused with spiritual energy. This is more than a book, it is a gateway to knowing ourselves and to understanding the power of universal and God energy. Dr. Allen, your experiences and your insights have defined and made clearer that which has confused me for most of my life. Those of us who have read Eaten by the Tiger are all so privileged to have travelled your journey with you. I will remember your "angels' and think of them almost like my own...Roxy, Mattie, your parents, the new born baby, the old man in Fiji and Rajesh. When you inhaled your dad's last breath, you were comforted in the knowledge that both of you shared a beautiful life together. Flat Out Inspiring

What I uncovered in this book far exceeded whatever my expectations were. I thought I was going to read an inspiring story followed by a bulleted list of self-help suggestions, and was instead practically ambushed by Dr. Allen's sincere and inspirational memoir.

He begins his story with an account that would be downright amusing if it wasn't true... he barely escapes death by electrocution while performing surgery on a patient. It was one of the most bizarre tales I have ever heard. What follows is a fascinating narrative of denial, grief and empowerment that overflows with inspiration.

Emile Allen was a successful surgeon in the years leading up to his accident; a life that had become comfortable, familiar and rewarding. Now unable to perform the most basic of tasks and riddled with pain he finds he is no longer able to maintain his practice. He becomes stuck in a destructive loop of disabilities, pain, medication, side-effects and more medications. With the loss of his career, self-esteem and identity Dr. Allen finds he must face his `tiger' head on... fear. He begins by remembering his true, original life passion and analyzing how he went off course. He writes about his journey in simple, engaging language, coming to this beautiful conclusion,
"It became clear to me that fighting for control in my life is disempowering... I realized that feeling vulnerable is okay... Being eaten by the tiger is the greatest gift that has ever happened to me."

Dr. Allen writes in a clear, easy to understand style without a lot of cluttered language. He is clearly interested in sharing his gifts, not parading them. There is not one boring spot in this book and I was generally frustrated when I had to set it down and deal with my day-to-day activities. This is not another hokey, self-help book, but an inspiring story for any of us on the planet feeling either generally unsatisfied or knocked on our faces.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, Dr. Allen. You do, indeed, have been given a great gift.

This book is a legendary classic in the field of general construction and is a must for personnel involved in construction management, general contracting and professional consulting. It covers all aspects of construction from company organization, estimating, field procedures, cost control, changes, punchlist, claims, labor relations and safety. The appendix contains reference standard documents and contract boilerplate from the AIA, AGC and others. It would take 20 years of work in the construction field to obtain the knowledge that this book can help to provide. This text is a must for all construction professionals.

Although not an easy read, this book makes an excellent reference. It covers just about anything you would want to know and in detail. I would recommend it to anyone just starting out in the construction industry.

Informative but Boring

This book is really informative and helpful for grasping all the aspects for construction contracting, but it's incredibly boring unless paired with practical applications. In other words where typical textbooks would attempt illustrations to assist the reader in comprehension this book makes no such attempt. Also, the sections of the chapters could be better organised. Some of the sections should become subsections for better comprehension. The information is all there and the author has done a thorough job, it just needs more to assist in teaching.

"Big Book of Bucky" Big Book of Disappointment!

This book contains no real value. You can find a better tutorial on YouTube. It didn't even show all the basics. This book had as little information as possible, contained in a small book in which almost half the pages were pictures. The Pictures would not help you make any shapes. I found one item out of the very few that were even covered, that i didn't know already. Even for the absolute beginner, I would not pay over $4.00 for this item, and I recommend that if you ARE getting it, you should BE the absolute beginner. Thank you for your time.

Handy book for a Buckyballs fan

After reading all the scathing reviews of this book, I put off buying it until I found a copy for under $4. It's worth that price for the clear illustrations of the basics. Yes, the writing is "too cute" and needs editing. There are no instructions for the elaborate structures in the back, but the photos are nice and they provide a challenge.

The book to have if you own Buckies

Instructions are written in a fun style, and illustrations and photos are excellent. Haven't yet tried all the configurations, but if I want to, they're there! Great for Bucky Ball fans indeed.
Truly a sad and unfortunate action the CPSC badgered Bucky Balls with. A responsible, creative and fun company is now out of business. Now, instead of responsible and effective warnings educating users not to allow young children to misuse these magnets, we'll have cheap Chinese substitutes flood the market, providing little or no responsible warning and instructions. Way to go CPSC. Your tax dollars at work!

Makes perfect sense

After reading the book, my wife and I decided to give the diet a try (excluding the enema) just to see what effect it would have on us. To our surprise, we lost weight without exercise, and our blood pressure dropped to it's lowest level in years. My wife even has expressed that she has more energy throughout the day and has not have had to take allergy medicine nearly as frequent as she used to. What I found interesting was that once you start eating a healthier diet, you cannot go back to the junk food without getting sick. To me this really illustrated that the human body needs and wants the foods that are listed in the book. I'll admit that it is difficult at first to make the changes in the way we eat and we are not quite there as of yet, but it all makes perfect sense. While we are not doing the enemas at this time, we are not ruling them out in the future. But if you are fighting obesity, diabetes,or high blood pressure and have an open mind, this book is well worth it.

if you can find it cheap, buy it!

If you're into the Gerson therapies, this book is pretty much a must-have. The problem is the price. It covers Gerson principles as it applies to three health topics: Obesity, Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. Gerson Media has now divided this information up into three books, which of course means you have to pay for three books instead of just one [this one being now out of print]. The protocols of the therapy don't change per se, so this is just as good as having the three under one cover [according to 'Marcus' - the fellow I talked to at Gerson Media].

His M.A. and Ph.D. were earned at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He has authored seven books and published 35 articles and book chapters, which have appeared in Social Problems, Sociological Inquiry, Social Science Quarterly, American Sociological Review, Critical Asian Studies, Teaching Sociology, The Journal of Contemporary Asia,  Sociological Quarterly, and other journals . He is a former president of the Wisconsin Sociological Association. Neuman has received his university’s highest award for research, the Chancellor's Award for service to students with disabilities, as well as the the Wisconsin Sociological Association's Outstanding Service Award, and the College of Letters and Sciences awards for outstanding teaching, excellence in research, and outstanding service.

Basics of Social Research: Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches 3rd Edition

I needed Basics of Social Research for my Sociology class. The book has a lot of useful information in it. I am learning how to write Social research papers using the Scientific Method. I would recommend this text book to anyone who does a lot of Social Research.

Awesome product for half the price

I'm taking classes online and I needed to find cheap books and this was the perfect way to go. The book was in great condition considering that I bought it used. I will buy more books from them.

Not a Fan So Far

I am not a fan of this book so far. Granted I have not read it cover to cover yet. But I have had to read quite a few chapters throughout the book (and still have more). The first thing I noticed was that it is very amateurish. Yes, I understand it is the BASICS of social research, but it is entirely too basic. The author spends too much time defining terms that I learned in 3rd grade and had drilled into my head ever since. I (and I wold expect other college and graduate students) do not need to have "hypothesis" and "theory" defined for me once again with long explanations as to what these terms mean. Maybe I am not the best person to review it. I am on my second masters degree (this is for my graduate level research methods class) and I have had two research methods classes already (one in undergrad and one in my last grad program). Despite that, I think that it would be amateurish and not much help for any college or graduate student, but especially graduate students. Maybe if someone was in a lower level research methods class it would be of help. If I later decide I am wrong, and find something helpful in here, I will update this review.
