About the Author
Paul Elsner, Ed.D., (Senior Editor) received his doctorate from Stanford University and completed study at the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. He is the Senior Editor of this Global Survey publication and the 2008 Edition. He serves on the Board of Directors for Sias International University in Zhengzhou, PRC, and has spoken and consulted in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Ireland, England, South Africa, and other countries. Elsner gave the Third Robert Atwell Distinguished lecture, following the first given by Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, and the second by Harvard President Neal Rudenstein. His previous appointments include ETS Board Chair at Princeton and the ACT Board at Iowa City. He also served as President of the Board for the League for Innovation and numerous Washington-based educational organizations and served as Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges for 23 years. He is currently Founding Chair and Organizer of the Sias International Water and Global Warming Conference.

About the Author

Shaun L. Gabbidon is Distinguished Professor of Criminal Justice in the School of Public Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg. He has served as a Fellow at Harvard University’s W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for Afro-American Research, and as an adjunct Associate Professor in the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. His most recent books include Race, Ethnicity, Crime and Justice: An International Dilemma (2009) and the Encyclopedia of Race and Crime (2009; co-edited with Dr. Helen Taylor Greene).

My Review Here is Factual regarding Black-on-White Crime in America

There might be a sound reason why Hollywood portrays blacks in a violent light...
According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), which relies on crime victims to identify their assailants, 320,000 whites were victims of black violence in 2010, while 63,000 blacks were victims of white violence. But the white population in the United States was 197 million in 2010, while the black population was 38 million. Hope you are sitting down for this one: In other words, blacks committed acts of violence against whites at a rate of 25 times higher than whites (849 per 100,000 vs. 32 per 100,000). Moreover, the pattern has been consistent for years, but is never, ever mentioned in the mainstream media.
In 2010 there were 13,000 black-against-white rapes in the United States and 39,000 black-against-white robberies. By contrast, the number of white-against-black rapes and robberies reported in the same survey were so small that the conclusion was whites were estimated to have accounted for 0% of all rapes and robberies committed against blacks in the United States.

Larry Ziring is the Arnold E. Schneider Professor of Political Science at Western Michigan University. Author/editor of more than twenty books, his latest publication is PAKISTAN: AT THE CROSSCURRENT OF HISTORY (2003). Currently engaged in studying the evolution of terrorism and its impact on the international system, he recently completed a study of the anatomy of terror in South Aisa. Among his recent publication are: PAKISTAN IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY (1997) and an edition in Urdu (2003), INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: A POLITICAL DICTIONARY (1995), BANGLADESH FROM MUJIB TO ERSHAD (1992), and THE MIDDLE EAST: A POLITICAL DICTIONARY (1992). Director of the Western Michigan University graduate program in Development Administration, his teaching responsibilities include American Foreign Policy, International Relations, The United Nations, International Law and Development Administration.

Subtle but pervasive pro-US bias

The revisions contained in the third edition are the work of Lawrence Ziring, professor at the University of Western Michigan. Ziring is a not an obvious candidate to be writing what is designed to be a textbook on the UN. He has publicly supported U.S. policies which are contrary to the spirit and the letter of U.N. principles, including the `humanitarian' bombings in Yugoslavia and U.S. attacks on alleged terrorist camps in Afghanistan and the biological weapons plant (which later turned out to be a pharmaceuticals factory) in Sudan. Ziring is also a member of the Atlantic Council, a Washington-based think-tank with people such as Robert McNamara and James A. Baker on its board of directors. The Atlantic Council focuses primarily upon supporting expanded roles for NATO.
As might be expected, in view of Ziring's credentials, the `textbook' is written with a consistently proUS, and generally anti-UN bias. It tends to downplay the UN's effectiveness, it attempts to demonstrate that all issues must be resolved within the context of political realism, and it implies on every occasion available that regional alternatives are to be preferred over the UN. These leitmotifs are pervasive throughout the book, with the exception of a few small patches of optimistic idealism, remnants no doubt of the second edition which Ziring failed to purge.
The biases of the book are nevertheless put forth with subtlety. When Ziring writes of the US refusal to pay its back dues to the UN, for instance, he refrains from ever using the word "refuse", opting instead for evasive locutions such as "reductions in the U.S. contributions were made necessary by subsequent congressional action...." Relative space allocations are used to forward the political agenda as much as the normative commentary: e.g. the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights is given more space than on the UN Human Rights Commission, and in the entirety of this 552 page book, there are only about two or three pages-worth of information about UN environmental initiatives. In terms of security issues, the UN is portrayed as a last ditch recourse which should normally defer to `more effective' regional organizations such as NATO and the OAS.
As an example of sophisticated pro-American propaganda, this book is high quality; as a textbook for studying the UN, however, it can only be recommended to those in search of a tool for undermining the organization's legitimacy.

Tinker's War is a riveting story for all ages

I love science fiction and I love fantasy, but I'd never before read steampunk. A serious gap in my reading, I know.
I've followed Jamie's blog for a couple of years, but I still didn't know quite what to expect when he sent me a copy of Tinker's War. When I started reading it, I couldn't put it down, and I'm glad I didn't. It is a marvelous story. I look forward to reading The Tinkerer's Daughter.

And the story continues

Great follow on to the Tinkerer's Daughter. This picks up nicely where the first book left off, and Breeze is quite a bit older and wiser. She has a very commanding presence in the book and shows that she knows how to lead. I would really like to see a drawing of how the planes are made and driven, that would be a neat thing to see. All in all as the one before this is a great book and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who likes the Steampunk genre.

Takes place many years after the first book. I had a bit of a hard time getting started but after the first chapter I was able to immerse in the world again. I think that there should have been a book between one and two as there are some things that have happened in between, which we seem to be supposed to know, but can only learn by continued reading.
Not a real fan of the foreshadowing for book three,Still overall it was a good book, I would recommend the series to any one who enjoys a bit of steam punk.

The Soccer Team Notebook is a practical, hands-on book that is the result of research, conversations, and studies with elite athletes and coaches from the NCAA, professional leagues, US National Teams, high school and middle school programs, and sports academies.

My first book on the subject is Writing on the Bus: Using Athletic Team Notebooks and Journals to Advance Learning and Performance in Sports. An informative read for coaches, would-be coaches, and serious athletes, Writing on the Bus is a how-to and why-to book about using writing to learn activities in your program to help athletes and teams move to the next level.

The Soccer Team Notebook is the third book in the series and includes the expertise of my coauthor, Amy Edwards, head coach of soccer at Gonzaga University. A practical book, the Soccer Team Notebook provides space for athletes to write about their training and reflect on their performances. The book offers athletes lots of choice and may be adapted in many ways.
