I use this book for work as a reference so I know what it contains in general. I bought it as somehow I missed being an ASHRAE member when it was issued - members get a "free" copy of the current years handbook.

The book condition was decent with some bent cover areas and minor scratches but nothing major.

The story of Bathsheba

Bathsheba. If you have been a church goer for any length of time, you have heard the name. What comes to mind? David? Adultery? Murder? Solomon? For me, all of those things and I must admit that I didn't ever look to Bathsheba and say "I want to be like her." However, she is an excellent example of how God can take something evil and turn it around for God and His purpose. It is truly a story of redemption.

Bathsheba: Reluctant Beauty by Angela Hunt is a fictionalized version of Bathsheba's life from a small girl who was prophesied to be "mother to a great man" and "affect the future of Israel" through her young adulthood and marriages, one of which was to King David and not through the ordinary love story. The story is told from both Bathsheba's perspective as well as that of Nathan the prophet with the chapters going back and forth between the two. The volume also includes a dozen discussion questions perfect for a book club.

Angela Hunt has written several novels of Biblical fiction. While I haven't read each of them, the ones I have are well researched and thought out. I have no doubt that the Bible is exactly what God intended it to be and that the background information on Biblical characters is, again, exactly what He wanted there. I do enjoy author's attempts to breathe life into the history though and must caution myself not to take the fiction I read as Truth. This novel, though, prompted me to search the Scriptures a bit deeper to discover exactly who Bathsheba was. Have I given her a bad wrap all these years or was it always her deepest longing to please Adonai?

In short, I loved it as I have loved all of Angela Hunt's writing. One of my favorites? Probably The Note along with the movie. HOWEVER, this may take it's place.

Great Twist to an Old Bible Story!

This is the second in the Dangerous Beauty Series from Angela Elwell Hunt and she just keeps getting better!! This is the story of another ravishing beauty from the Bible, Bathsheba. As with Ms. Hunt’s previous novel, Esther, it once again proves that beauty can be both a blessing and a curse.

Ms. Hunt has done an outstanding job bringing the story of David and Bathsheba to life! Although she has followed the Old Testament story of these two, she fills in the details of how their life could have been beautifully and believably. You get a glimpse into Bathsheba’s pain over the loss of her husband and her concern for the lives of her children. You realize that King David, although very human, is not an ogre who just takes what he wants. You also get a taste of what the life of a prophet is like.

Even if you are not interested in Bible stories, pick this book up because it is so much more!!! This is not only a story from the Bible, it is a timeless story about the consequences of wanting what you can’t have that will keep you reading. It is tastefully written and can be enjoyed by all ages.

Compelling novel; couldn't put it down!

I've often said that I normally give Biblical fiction a wide berth, but if it's written by Angela Hunt, I know it is steeped in research and Biblical truth. The first of her Dangerous Beauty novels, Esther: Royal Beauty, captivated me, and I was intrigued by the concept of tob beauty as Angela Hunt explained it when I interviewed her last summer. This new novel is just as compelling. Much of the story of David and Bathsheba in the Bible focuses on David, and Hunt's portrayal of Bathsheba's persepective fascinated me. Bathsheba and Uriah's deep love for one another and Uriah's steadfast loyalty to the king he served make David's actions even more reprehensible. Hunt's commitment to accuracy combines with her gift of story as she depicts Bathsheba's life before and after she entered palace life. I ached for Bathsheba as she was plucked from her home in the midst of her grief and placed among the unwelcoming concubines and wives. Her strength and reliance on HaShem and his promises inspired and reminded me of God's sovereignty and ability to redeem the worst of man's sins. Angela Hunt remains firmly among the top five of my must-read author list, and I can't wait to read the final novel about Delilah, coming in 2016! Don't miss Bathsheba: Reluctant Beauty.

Okay Book

I purchased this book because I wanted specific activities I could use in my primary classroom. Half of the book's content was persuasion on why it was important to use various learning styles. I did not need to be persuaded so this was a waste for me. There are a few pages that will benefit my classroom, but not the majority of the book. If you're looking for a Silver & Strong book that will be useful, try their "Tools for Promoting Active, Indepth Learning". It's much better than this one.

Even after Louise's mother remarries and she can finally look forward to moving away from Mr. Jarvis, Louise must endure one more harrowing attack before he is finally caught out. But even then, with child protection teams still very much in their infancy in the early 1980s, Louise still lives with the consequences of her unstable childhood.


WARNING: This book is based upon a true story of child abuse, and as such contains passages that some readers may find disturbing.

Kept my interest from start to finish

After reading the book, I was surprised at the low scores some people have given this book. Yes, it is short and can be read in a couple of hours by a fast reader. However, I felt the book was well written in a natural voice and easy to follow. The very few minor typos did not create a problem for me. The story takes place in England, and the author tells of her experience of being abused by a "trusted" leader from the family's church. I was fascinated by the ploy used by the abuser, and I learned from the author how confusing it was for her. I appreciated that she shared the thought process she went through as she tried to understand what had happened to her. The author states that she wrote her story as part of writing therapy, and I'm grateful for the education it provided us readers. Very well done, "Louise."

A good resource for building your space ship model kits

This book will give you many tips and ideas for building and displaying space ship model kits. The pictures and text are good. Intermediate to advanced modelling skills are needed to build the kits this book. This is a second edition with articles about kits from Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica, and the U.S. space program. I'd like to see a third edition with more kits from Star Wars, Trek, and also Lost in Space and Babylon 5.

This book is geared more towards the modeler with a little more experience. There are many great models to look at. I am an avid Trekkie and purchased it for this purpose but found myself in awe with the other models presented. The one I liked best was the Lighted Enterprise D. Abe
