Knox Jones, Jr., has been a practicing mammalogist for more than 40 years. Currently he is a Paul Whitfield Horn Professor of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech and a Curator in the Museum there. Jones has authored or edited 14 books among is more than 350 publications, and has studied mammals on five continents. He is a past president of the American Society of Mammalogists and has been awarded the C. Hart Merriam Award, the H. H. T. Jackson Award, and Honorary Membership by that society. In 1992, he was selected as Texas Distinguished Scientist of the Year by the Texas Academy of Science, and was awarded the Donald W. Tinkle Research Excellence Award by the Southwestern Association of Naturalists.Richard W. Manning is a member of the faculty of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Fine taxonomy key down to GENERA, only, of N.A. mammals.

This work can be utilized by experienced field personnel. Lacks definitions of many terms and techniques for identifications, referred to in the dichotomous key. Common names for the family and genus are rarely used. However, the photos and illustrations provided are of very good quality. The guide provides the necessary detail required for general field use of mammal skulls.

Very general, very technical, poor photographs in many cases, this book appears to have been written for a specific class at the univeristy where the authors teach. It is hard to identify many specific skulls with this - unless you are a wildlife biology person it won't be helpful to the average curious naturalist.

A good start on continuous time markov SDE

This recent textbook is a comprehensive and really accessible review of a new field in stochastic calculus. Basics on SDE theory are developped in the first chapter, but I will not advise to start this book without a serious knowledge of standard stochastic calculus.

The chapters are really well designed, and there is an effort to make proofs clear and accessible. Congratulations to the authors, this math textbook is really easy to read.

There is a chapter devoted to applications, which is laudable, but it can be considered as a bit limited. A bridge toward discrete time Markov Switching and discrete time Markov chain models may be missing.

To make it short, this is not a book for practitioners, unless they have a strong taste for theory.

Except for the last story, the format for each story is the same: a small group of people entertain themselves, each time they meet, by having one of them tell a mystery and then the others try to solve it before hearing the solution. Unexpectedly, the elderly Miss Marple - better known for her knitting - manages to solve every one.

1. Retired Scotland Yard Commissioner, Sir Henry, tells of three who sat down to sup: two became ill - the third died.
2. An elderly parish clergyman tells of the death of a woman dressed as a Goddess.
3. Miss Marple's nephew tells of a man who may have known too much about the missing gold.
4. An artist tells of a scenic fishing village - perfect for painting and for murder.
5. A lawyer tells of a rich man who - just before he dies - makes a new will, and now, the new will is missing.
6. Miss Marple tells of the time when nearly everyone thought her niece Maple had murdered her husband.

7. Col. Bantry tells of the mysterious death of Mrs. Pritchard; curiously, the flowers in her room predicted it.
8. A doctor tells of the drowning of an English woman.
9. Sir Henry tells a story of former Secret Service agent who had fallen down the stairs.
10. Jane Marple tells of Mrs. Sanders being found face down; a sand-filled stocking lay nearby.
11. Mrs. Bantry tells of a vivacious girl who dies after supping on a meal featuring duck.

Though Dickman, whose first collection, All-American Poem (2008), received the May Sarton Award from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, lives in Portland, Oregon, he belongs to the New York School of Poetry. He is not as completely immersed in the quotidian as Frank O’Hara, and his lines lack O’Hara’s tensile strength, but Dickman’s tone is similar, as is the ambition to evoke but not to capture, and his poems progress at the speed of sensation. Dickman is so committed to his method of digression that all but one poem are similar in length, style, and tone. “The Madness of King George” introduces a second voice, a woman in a bar sitting next to the poet, and the different cadence of speech is astonishing because Dickman’s primary voice is so distinctive. Promising idea, doesn't get there

The book seems to be an attempt to stake out new poetic space by writing a type of now traditional personal, confessional poetry in an updated beat/hip/postmodern style, all set within the generally neglected (in poetry at least) white working class milieu. The recurring motif is the death of an older brother, alternating with memories of other losses and loves. The approach is a promising one, and the emotions expressed are clearly sincere, but for me, the book just doesn't work well as poetry: the style in general strikes me as prosy (though vigorous and clear prose -- maybe the book would have been more effectively cast as a short novel), the metaphors strained rather than startling, and most of the individual poems failing to achieve the unified arc of imagery and emotion I expect from a successful poem. I also thought that not much attention was paid to the very rich and strong traditional rhetorical strategies of formal elegy in English language poetry -- if you miss that, you miss a lot. The book has been well reviewed elsewhere and some will like it -- if you're thinking of buying it, a glance at one of two pages of the amazon preview will let you know quickly if you are one of them. But or me, it doesn't get there.

Masterpiece in modern poetry

This is an emotionally taxing collection. In fact, it took me much longer to read than anticipated because I felt that reading it all in one sitting would do it and me a great disservice. However, I've walked away feeling as though I've learned something greater, something deeper. I've found a new friend. I've found a hand to hold in the dark. I'm in love with a book.

Portraits of grief, guilt, and love.

Matthew Dickman's work really caught me off guard. I came across one of his poems while scrolling through instagram of all things. Believe it or not there are a lot of excellent poets lurking around on that app. I'm a pretty avid reader but I've never consistently read poetry. I've come across poems that really got my attention but never found a poet who's complete works kept my interest. Poetry is tough because there is so much of it and it's not easily segregated by genre or categorized by someone who is not familiar with it in a technical sense. It can be really tough to find the style that appeals to you. Something about Matthew Dickman's work caught my attention immediately and kept it throughout this book. The prose feels loose at first but as you read on you realize just how carefully measured it is and that Dickman really is a master of his craft. This book contains portraits of grief but also guilt, shame, and love. The work is introspective in a way that is intensely personal. There were moments where I felt like the author himself had let me in too close, revealed too much of the inner workings of his brain to me and I was grateful for it. His portraits of guilt are incredibly effective. Whether its the story of him and his brother torturing their sister with a dead goldfish or the story about the time he offended someone by telling a joke about "sexy kids" and the guilt he felt afterward. His analysis of himself is so honest and even masochistic that it's hard not to be effected by it. I read this book slow. I took it all in little by little. While I finished it months ago at this point I still pull it out from time to time just to experience my favorite moments over again.

I love this cover for Broken Bonds, it's stunning. It also doesn't use models on the cover who are supposed to be characters. I've discovered I really don't like books that do. I prefer to keep it non descriptive looking so my mind gets its own picture.

I initially classed Relocated (the beginning book to this series) as Young Adult reading.
However Broken Bonds has a lot more sex in it. So that said, it may or may not be YA in some eyes.

It's not overly graphic, it's mostly written as "kissed on the mouth" and "made love" but there is at least one small scene that is a bit more descriptive. It's nothing really controversial and definitely not 50 shades material or anything but I'm pointing it out for others.

It fits with the context of the book, so it's not as if the author tossed in a bunch of sex to sell a book or anything.

Anyway.. now that full discloser is done.

I loved this book. Marvellous. I devoured it in a day.
It was so nice to be able to go back and visit with this cast of characters.

Aleyni is such a unique place. The scenery there, never ceases to amaze.

Ardaval was still my favourite character, there is just something about him that continues to fascinate me. But it was nice to get a window into more of the other characters past and present.

Broken Bonds, surprised me. It's a science fiction romance, but it gave me so many things to think about. Poetry, love. relationships. spirituality, family, right and wrong.
I think that's what I love most about this series, it's not a heavy book/series but it's not fluff either.

I can not think of any other book I could relate to this series, it's so unique and refreshing.

The action kept me reading way passed bedtime. I could not put it down I just had to see how things were going to end.
A book that stayed true to the magic of the series and one I will most definitely read again and again.

A Powerful Future To Cheer On Today

I did not learn until the very end of reading this book that it is the second trip Ms. Margaret Fieland takes her readers on into the alien world of Aleyne. Does that mean the reader needs to first read book one RELOCATED to get up-to-speed before grasping what it is happening, or GOING to happen in this book BROKEN BONDS? NOPE!

Ms. Fieland does a fantastic job of rapidly recapping for the first time adventurers. At no time did I feel lost. At no time did I have to wonder...what is going on? What I DID feel is the same level of frustration I feel today with the ongoing proof of political corruption confronting us almost daily with the news reports pouring out of Washington and downtown Podunk. Political manipulation at its finest, which translates at its most corrupt is alive and well in the distant future and has a stranglehold that we, the readers of today can understand all too well.

However, this is NOT a story limited by the intrigue of the underhanded greed and power plays that form the chessboard upon which the foundation of the story is built. It is, actually, a journey through the many levels of love, trust, fear, and core beliefs shaped by societal norms.

Ms. Fieland weaves her story well, bringing Science FUTURE, to Earth-NOW. Every level is carefully presented the reader understands, accepts, and almost wishes we too were a part of the cohesive units being forged in her future, Aleyne. BROKEN BONDS

Science-Fiction? Yes...but more...so much more...and well deserving of the FIVE BRIGHT STARS I give it.

I can't wait for the next book in this powerful journey.

Oh, and I agree with what the previous reviewer said about the cover. This is one of the most powerful covers I have ever seen and all because it is so subtle it hits you harder with its resounding message.

struggled with Broken Bonds by Margaret Fieland. I don’t know if it was because I started with the second book in this series. I don’t know if it was the characters. I don’t know if it was her writing style. All of these could have a played a part. I can tell you that I did like at least one of her characters, Brad. He was my favorite and I guess that is good since he appeared to be central to everyone else. He was a strong alpha male that was very in tuned with his needs and the needs of those he loved. Ardval was clearly broken and struggling to move forward without dealing with his past. And when his past provides the only hope for his future, accepting the second chance is hard for him and it is obvious. But Ms. Fieland hopped from one character to another. Sometimes within sentences which made it difficult to focus on any one character. Sometimes the switches so quickly I felt like I had whiplash trying to keep track. This story had lots of potential. It was unique in the world she was building. I wanted to understand more about not only the world but also the people just not all at once and in one story.

I'm a big fan of bone broth and was so excited when this book arrived. It didn't disappoint. The recipes produce mouth-watering, yummy dishes that are easy to make and nutritious to boot. Who knew there were so many ways to use this healing broth.

Great recipes. I have been on several weeks. Can see improvement in my joints already. I had knee surgery 2 years ago and my knee hurt all the time. In just a few weeks I can walk more with less painful. I have no intention of giving up bone broth soon.
